PARC provides vulnerable farmers with legal consultations

1234567

For the first time in the agricultural sector, PARC has carried out the implementation of legal consultations for a number of 328 vulnerable farmers, where HR/IHL Secretariat has contributed through funding “Advancing human rights-based approach to protect farmland and farmers' rights in the Gaza Strip “Project, which is implemented by PARC. The project allowed PARC to adopt a new approach in their work in providing services for farmers. It aims at raising legal awareness among the farmers on how to gain and defend their rights after finishing the activity of

providing legalconsultations to them. To achieve more success in supporting the farmers, PARC chose targeted farmers who are already beneficiaries of PARC projects, which makes it a full benefit-cycle for the farmers. The legal consultations offered for the farmers varied from land ownership transfer cases to the prevention of women from their inheritance rights to salinity of ground water due to unofficial aggressive digging of water wells and compensations for demolishing of houses and lands caused by the war. In the end of the project, a number of the farmers’ cases were referred to Palestinian Bar association for legal representation in the courts.
